Top Tips On Event Photography
By Terry Brown | February 9, 2010
Event photography as a job is very lucrative. People who cover events like weddings, conferences, sports events, award functions etc. are known as event photographers.
There is a misconception among many people that all an event photographer does is arrive at the venue with a camera and start shooting merrily. Nothing could be farther from the truth. An event photographer must have some important skills to excel at his job, which he/she can sharpen through a variety of courses available for this objective.
From the outside you may think that as the photographer runs around just clicking that there is no method in their photography. At an event there is an objective in place that must be satisfied. Generating a large spread of great high quality pictures takes skill and a great eye. Being quick off the mark is a must to snap all those unexpected shots.
Creativity is a must-have for an event photographer along with an innate quality to sense the theme of the event. For instance, the method required to do a wedding project is not the same as that of a sports event. Therefore, the photographer must have a knack of capturing the mood of an event in his pictures.
Event photography also needs a lot of managerial skills. A bumbling and careless approach doesn\’t quite suit event photography. The photographer must always be ready with all his gear before the event begins. Taking the job casually and walking in an event without any preparation will jeopardize your chances of doing well in this profession.
An event photographer must be technically sound and competent for the job. A thorough know-how of the photography gadgets goes a long way in getting high quality photographs. Light is an important component in photography and therefore a photographer must have the expertise to use the available light to the optimum.
In short, event photography demands the practitioner\’s dedication along with his enthusiasm for learning different aspects of the profession. You also need to improve your awareness levels and flexibility to be able to do well in this field.

A Brief Guide To Event Photography
By Rita Phang | February 9, 2010
Event photography has always been an attractive career for the creative minds. In various events, like sports meets, marriages, and even business events, the event photographer is given an attractive remuneration for making use of his talent. The significance of event photography is that it permits people to preserve their memories of important occasions and recall them later through the photos.
Any professionally trained photographer can take up event photography and be good at it. However, to excel there are a few points that must be kept in mind.
The first thing that you should look at is the type of occasion to be photographed and the aim of the photos. For instance, if you are photographing a corporate event, where the pictures are intended to be published in an internal magazine, then you must focus on the exact proceedings of the event and develop a sequence of photographs that display how the event proceeded. But, if you are photographing a personal party, then it would be recommended to give attention to the people present, and capture their faces.
Alertness is a key characteristic in event photography. You should be completely aware of the proceedings around you and must know when to click and when to hold for sometime. Even the customers prefer employing those photographers who can appreciate the things happening around them and do not have to be guided on the appropriate moment to click a picture. This is something which you can cultivate only with time but you must continue making attempts to acquire this talent.
Knowledge about the venue would assist you in photographing the event appropriately. You must make yourself familiar with the spots where most of the action will be taking place and find good spots to position yourself for an unobstructed view of the proceedings.
As far as the technical aspects are concerned, always ensure that you are familiar with your camera and all its features, so that you can quickly click pictures from hard angles and not miss key moments. Lighting is a critical part of photography and a good event photographer must collect information about the intensity of light that will be available at the venue. Accordingly, you should come prepared with the right equipment and with your camera in the correct settings.
Finally, as an event photographer, you should be of a pleasant disposition. You should be able to mix with the people that you would photograph. If you are able to interact with the people and feel the mood of the event then the group would be more at ease and the pictures will be much more natural.

How Corporate Photography Is Vital For The Success Of A Company
By Aiza Reeves | February 9, 2010
Corporate photography occupies an important place in any organization\’s operations as it serves many essential purposes. Good photographs help in effectively promoting the company\’s products or services in the media by their impactful presence in advertisements and company brochures.
One of the most noteworthy roles of a corporate photographer is to come up with photos depicting the progressive face of a company on its yearly report, which is often read by shareholders and clients. Such reports act as testaments to the progress that the company has made in the previous year. A report that is peppered with nice looking and vibrant pictures helps greatly in enhancing the image of the organization before both outsiders and its own staff.
Corporate brochures meant for use in job fairs or university premises can be made attractive with the use of creative and insightful pictures that project the work culture of the company. Brochures projecting a positive image of your organization\’s work culture can attract worthy candidates interested in working with your firm. An able corporate photographer can transform potential job candidates out in the market into job applicants with the company.
Likewise, product brochures for clients can also be made much more appealing if the corporate photographer is skilled. This can lead to positive enquiries from interested clients about the company\’s offerings, and can increase prospects of a sale.
A corporate photographer is also a visual reporter of a company\’s history. He is always available at corporate events conducted by the company to take photos for later use. These pictures make a remarkable archive for any firm. The archive records the history of the company in photos for the younger generation and doesn\’t let its proud legacy fade away with the passage of time.
Many companies now also have an internal periodical, where pictures and reports of latest events are included for the employees. These photographs make employees feel a certain sense of association with the company, make them more dedicated to its welfare, and keep them enthused about their employment.
These are a few of the many ways in which corporate photographers can immensely help the organization. They operate behind the scenes but their good work never goes unnoticed. Their services are of great significance both for the company\’s internal operations and for its stature in the market, and therefore only a seasoned professional must be picked for the job, who can fulfill all your corporate photography requirements.

Beating Brock Lesnar: 5 Who Can
By Ross Everett | February 9, 2010
Following Brock Lesnar\’s UFC 100 victory over Frank Mir, many new fans to the sport are under the mistaken impression that he\’s unbeatable. In his short tenure as a professional fighter, the former WWE champion has seen a remarkable transformation in public opinion from the suggestion that he\’s a \’sideshow freak\’ to the misconception that he\’s \’unbeatable\’. With all due respect to Lesnar, who is progressing by leaps and bounds as a fighter with every bout, hes got a big deficit in experience to make up on the job as UFC heavyweight champion.
Lesnar is no doubt a tough matchup, but he\’s been the beneficiary of very favorable matchups in his short professional career. Lesnar has made amazing progress as a fighter, but he\’s not unbeatable. Here\’s fight fighters who could do it.
1) FEDOR EMELIANENKO: While the acrimonious relationship between the Russian fighting god and the UFC brass makes this matchup unlikely, Brock Lesnar made news with his dismissal of Fedor at the press conference welcoming Couture back to the fold. The best news for Lesnar in this matchup is that it probably wont happen. The Last Emperor is as close to unbeatable as anyone in mixed martial arts. Fedor has defeated not only bigger opponents, but freakishly large opponents like K-1 kickboxer Hong-Man Choi and Kamala the Ugandan Giant doppelganger Zuluzhinho (whom he beat in a matter of seconds, essentially with one punch). The WAMMA World Heavyweight champion has striking power, submission mastery, and may be the toughest fighter mentally in the sport. Fedor might get taken down by the new UFC heavyweight champ, but hed reverse it from the bottom and win via armbar.
2) ANTONIO RODRIGO NOGUEIRA: Nogueira would present Lesnar with another formidable challenge. His five career losses are all via decision and came to the absolute highest level of competition (Fedor Emelianenko twice, Frank Mir, Josh Barnett and Dan Henderson). The Mir fight was a lopsided loss, but it was later revealed that he had been recovering from a staph infection that limited his training and clearly impacting his conditioning. His ability to withstand punishment and take a punch allows him to be patient against powerful opponents and wait for an opening for a submission, as evidenced in his fight against Tim Sylvia. A healthy \’Nog\’ would be able to test Lesnar\’s ability to \’finish\’ matches and would be an even more dangerous submission threat than Mir.
3) JOSH BARNETT: Barnett is another unlikely opponent for Lesnar, also due to his strained relationship with Dana White and current issues with his positive drug test. Still, with the exception of Fedor, Barnett could be the worst matchup in the sport for the new UFC champ. Lesnar is likely the more powerful of the two, but Barnett is an imposing physical presence himself at 63 250 lbs. Barnett also has a solid wrestling background, with the added dimension of his sizable submission repertoire. As his career has progressed, Barnett has become a more patient and tactically sound fighter and his standup game has improved significantly. Unfortunately for MMA fans, a matchup between Lesnar and Barnett is more likely to happen in an IGF pro wrestling event than in the UFC.
4) ALISTAIR OVEREEM: Overeem is bigger than Lesnar\”260 pounds and 65 tall. He went through a rough patch in his career during his tenure in PRIDE, but has compiled a 5-1-1 record in his last seven fights. Mirko Cro Cop suggests that hes the *only* fighter in the world who could beat Fedor Emelianenko at this point. Hes got great standup including a kickboxing background that could cause Lesnar problems, as well as solid ground fighting ability. Hes yet another heavyweight that is unlikely to bend to Dana Whites contractual demands, and currently has a relationship with DREAM in Japan and Strikeforce in the US. Still, hes a dangerous matchup for any fighter on the planet.
5) RANDY COUTURE: Lesnars win over Couture was far from decisive, and it didnt have anything to do with the age disparity. Couture got caught with a big shot and it cost him the fight. Until that point, he was more than holding his own. He was making his opponent work hard, had the edge in the striking exchanges and had opened up a cut over Lesnars right eye. Itll never be a favorable physical matchup on paper for Couture but at the same time Lesnar in no way proved his categorical superiority over The Natural
Lesnars next challenge is likely to be the winner of the Cain Velesquez/Shane Carwin match. Both are big, rugged competitors but are also beatable opponents for Lesnar. An intriguing matchup down the road could be against Croatian striking machine Mirko Cro Cop. Cro Cop has battled injuries over the past year or so but if he could come close to the form he demonstrated in winning the PRIDE Open Weight GP he could be another formidable challenge. At his best, Cro Cop is simply the most devastating striker in the sport.

Philadelphia Has No Trouble With Struggling Washington
By Ross Everett | February 9, 2010
The \’new look\’ Washington Redskins offense under Sherm Lewis looked much like the old offense under Jim Zorn, and the Philadelphia Eagles had little trouble as they opened a 27-10 halftime lead en route to a 27-17 victory on Monday Night Football. DeSean Jackson scored a long touchdown both rushing and receiving, and Donovan McNabb threw for 156 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions in the victory.
The Eagles also rewarded NFL betting enthusiasts with the pointspread cover as -8\’ road favorites. Philadelphia is now 4-2 against the number while the Redskins continued their struggles against the NFL pointspread dropping to 1-6. The 44 combined points went OVER the posted total of 38.
Jackson\’s only complaint after the game was that a sore ankle undermined the artistry of his post touchdown tap dance:
\”I was out there having fun, man, honestly. My ankle was kind of hurting. I really didn\’t feel it, but it did kind of affect my dance a little bit. I could put it to perfection a little bit better than that.\”
Redskins\’ defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth suggested that this team has to learn to play as a unit:
\”You can say but so much. You\’ve got to actually want to. So once we get to that point — where we want to do something — then we\’ll do something. But if we just keep going our separate ways, then we\’ll just keep getting slaughtered like we have.\”
Jim Zorn was apparently more interested in playing \’gotcha\’ with the management that replaced him as the Redskins\’ offensive play caller than in analyzing the game:
\”Well, the result was the same. We got 17 points. It was difficult for me. It was difficult to stand and watch. The hard part is to keep your mouth shut.\”
Washington running back Rock Cartwright expressed Washington\’s struggles in a philosophical light:
\”You have to take the bitter with the sweet. And right now we\’re at a bitter moment.\”
The Eagles will host the New York Giants this Sunday, with the game currently \’pick\’em\’ and the total posted at 44. They\’ll host the Dallas Cowboys the following Sunday before hitting the road to play the San Diego Chargers on November 15. The Redskins have a much needed bye week before they travel south to play the Atlanta Falcons on November 8. They\’ll host the Denver Broncos the following Sunday before playing on the road against the Dallas Cowboys on November 22.

Key Qualities That Make A Good Corporate Photographer
By Nadine Phillips | February 9, 2010
Corporate photography is an essential requirement for most firms, but choosing the right photographer entails a significant amount of careful consideration. Other forms of photography may not require the same kind of expertise and techniques that are needed in corporate photography; thus a normal professional photographer may not actually be a good corporate photographer.
Companies planning to engage a corporate photographer should look for some key qualities and check the experience of the candidate to make sure that he can deliver desirable output.
Versatility is an important quality that a corporate photographer must have, so that he can manage many types of tasks and responsibilities like events coverage, ad photography, or clicking attractive photos of the company\’s products. A preferred corporate photographer should always be keen to fulfil all these responsibilities with haste and careful attention.
Corporate events are hit-or-miss affairs that don\’t allow the photographer to decide his angles or to go for retakes, and so he cannot afford loss of his focus and concentration. A corporate event does not always follow a fixed pattern and a laid back attitude on part of the photographer will reflect badly on his work. Therefore, a corporate photographer should be fast to react and should always stay vigilant to the circumstances and developments going on at the event.
It is also essential that a corporate photographer is able to capture good quality pictures even in unfavourable situations. For example, in an indoor corporate event, he might have to do with insufficient light and deal with the crowd. Even in such difficult circumstances, he must be capable of taking good quality photographs.
Another crucial aspect that must be considered is the modus operandi and personality of the photographer. It is important for a corporate photographer to involve himself in the interests of the company. A good photographer should be able to put the staff in a comfortable state of mind, so that they don\’t feel awkward before the camera when they are required to get a picture clicked with a smiling face at official or informal events of the firm. Besides, the photographer must not be asocial by character or a difficult person to work with.
You must check samples of prior work of the photographer, but do not be swayed by his market reputation. It is also essential to engage all the prospective candidates in one to one interviews in order to evaluate how suitable their personalities are and ensure that they will fit your particular requirements to perfection.

Japan\’s Pro Wrestling Icon: Mitsuharu Misawa
By Ross Everett | February 9, 2010
Mitsuharu Misawa died in Hiroshima, Japan earlier this year less than a week before his 47th birthday. He was in a tag team match for his Pro Wrestling NOAH promotion with Go Shiozaki against Bison Smith and Akitoshi Saito. Saito hit a back suplex on Misawa, which appeared to knock him unconscious. Medical staff attempted to revive him in the ring, but when CPR failed he was taken to a hospital by ambulance. He never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead on arrival.
There\’s at least a small bit of solace in the fact that he died in the ring doing what he loved, and what he did better than just about anyone on the planet. Misawa\’s last moments were spent working the kind of brutally stiff, athletically realistic match that got a generation hooked on Japanese wrestling.
Misawa was a top level high school wrestler, and that got him noticed by All Japan Pro Wrestling majordomo Shohei Giant Baba. He made his professional debut in\’81, and got his first big break in\’84 when he was chosen as the second Tiger Mask replacing Satoru Sayama. In\’90, he had his longtime tag team partner (and occasional rival) Toshiaki Kawada unmask him.
Misawa would wrestle as himself from then on, and become an even bigger star in the process. In June,\’90 he became one of the top stars in All Japan Pro Wrestling when he defeated Jumbo Tsuruta. He soon faced Triple Crown Champion Stan Hansen in an unsuccessful challenge for the title, and would become arguably the biggest native star in Japanese pro wrestling for the next decade.
He had legendary battles against Kawada, Hansen, Kenta Kobashi, and Steve Dr. Death Williams in singles competition. Misawa would continue as a mainstay in AJPW until the early part of this decade. After the death of Giant Baba, he left to establish Pro Wrestling NOAH. He would serve as the companys president while wrestling a full time schedule until his untimely death.
Japanese pro wrestling served as an introduction for many American fans into shoot fight sports and MMA. Before the Internet, fans would trade videotapes to stay up on the latest matches from Japan and along with Jushin Thunder Liger and The Great Muta Keiji Mutoh it safe to say that Misawa is one of the wrestlers most responsible for getting a generation of American fans hooked on the product. Were it not for the subculture he created in America, later wrestling promotions like Ring of Honor and MMA promotions like the UFC wouldn\’t have had a ready made audience to tap into.

Tips For Becoming An Event Photographer
By Troy Chin | February 9, 2010
Event photography is a rewarding occupation, both creatively as well as financially. The job involves taking natural and vibrant photographs of several kinds of live events. You have to be led by your gut feeling to creatively present an occasion in all its splendour. By doing so, an event photographer successfully captures memories through his pictures which can yield a treasure of happiness.
A lot of people believe that event photographers just reach the venue of an event and shoot pictures without much thought. This presumption might be right in the case of amateur event photographers, but expert ones have a lot of attributes that lead to high quality service to the clients. As a professional event photographer, you first have to understand the nature and the mood of the event prior to actually covering it. It is of prime importance to cover the essence and spirit of the event. For example, covering a wedding is very different from covering an official event or a sports event.
As an event photographer, you also should have good knowledge of your camera, along with awareness about the newest digital processing technology. You should have good working knowledge of different lenses and how they must be changed taking into consideration the nature of the event. The photography instruments and their settings change greatly depending on whether the event photography is to be carried out within the four walls or out in the open and at what time of the day.
Lighting at the place where the event will take place is also very crucial. The camera aperture and ISO setting should be in accordance with the light available at the venue. The necessity for a supplementary flash light is also determined on the basis of this condition. Moreover, you must also be alert and aware of the happenings around you to be able to take the best shots with a high degree of precision.
To acquire better insight into the realm of photography, it would be wise to consider books and expert courses on the matter. It is best to acquaint yourself with the technological and softer aspects of event photography before starting with assignments as the probability of repeat assignments are dependent on the quality you delivered in your earlier assignments.
Last but not the least, you must have a passion for your work if you desire to achieve any success in this profession. Readiness to adapt to any kind of situation, attentiveness, and a flexible approach are the important factors that will help you move forward as an event photographer.

How To Find Someone To Take Your Family Portrait
By Sophia Rogers | February 9, 2010
Professional photos of families are used for various celebrations such as anniversaries, family reunions and birthdays. One of the best ways to capturing the positive emotion of such merry events would be portrait photography. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then you must get the best quality possible. Pictures with bad quality are not nice to look at, rendering them useless. Therefore, choosing a professional family portrait photographer, and some other important factors, can contribute positively towards getting high quality photos to capture your favorites memories.
The first thing you should be sure of is that the photographer\’s style and your requirements match perfectly. This implies that you need to first decide what kind of family portraits you want. Are you looking for spontaneous pictures, or meticulously planned formal sessions? Do you want your pictures to be in black & white, or in vibrant colours? These factors related to what styles you like should be first considered, and then you can meet a family portrait photographer and have a look at some of his previous samples to know how comfortable he is in working with the styles you desire.
Then you need to think about the backdrop of the photograph, which has a major impact on the result, as well as on what photography apparatus the family portrait photographer needs to bring with him. The ambience of indoor & outdoor venues is entirely different and only an experienced photographer would be able to make the right choice of the camera and additional equipment.
In addition to the photographer\’s expertise and his ability to shoot as per your needs, you must also check the type of output his company can deliver. The final touches of the photos and their developing process on the paper if carried out well can make a significant impact on the quality of the pictures. The photography company should also be in a position to give you a range of other services like a good collection of photo frames & designer albums, so that you can elegantly preserve your photographs. Hence, it is a wise move to check for these before finalising the family portrait photographer for your event or purpose.
Moreover, if the chosen photographer\’s company can provide you extra free services & facilities like sending your photographs for free at your doorstep or visiting the venue of photography to assess the special needs for the day, then you can be certain that you have made the right selection. These ancillary services are quite common & expecting them is natural since you will be spending a good amount of money in the entire exercise.
